Assorted Spinifex and Tumbleweed Branches

Nothing says outback like spinifex. Our assorted spinifex and tumbleweed branches bring the look and texture of Australia’s arid interior into your enclosure: dry, airy, natural cover that gives desert reptiles and invertebrates somewhere to hide, climb and feel secure. They’re the same natural décor we use as a finishing layer on our Dry Sclerophyll and Arid builds.

Supplied as: an assortment of natural pieces. Every piece is unique, and sizes and shapes vary. Medium(up to 60cm), and Large (60+cm)

Ideal for:

  • Bearded dragon, pygmy bearded dragon and desert skink enclosures
  • Knob-tailed gecko and other desert gecko setups
  • Scorpion and desert invertebrate enclosures
  • Praying mantis enclosures, for perching and moulting
  • Arid and dry sclerophyll bioactive builds and desert displays

Why add spinifex to your enclosure?

  • Authentic Australian look: recreates the spinifex country that many desert species call home.
  • Natural cover: small lizards, geckos and invertebrates shelter in and under the tangled branches, which reduces stress.
  • Climbing and perching: a light, textured structure for climbing, basking and moulting.
  • Breaks up open space: clumps of spinifex create visual barriers and microhabitats across the enclosure floor.
  • Lightweight and easy to arrange: move, layer and reshape it whenever you rearrange your build.

How to use it

  • Tuck clumps into corners and along the back wall for a natural, overgrown look.
  • Lay pieces over hides and burrow entrances to give extra cover.
  • Use larger pieces as low climbing structures for lizards and mantises.
  • Keep it away from heat lamps and heat sources, as dry plant material can scorch.
  • Replace pieces when they become brittle or soiled.

Spinifex FAQ

Is spinifex safe for reptiles?
Yes, as natural dried plant décor. Keep it clear of basking lamps and heat sources, and replace it if it breaks down.

Can I use spinifex in a bioactive enclosure?
Yes. In arid and dry sclerophyll bioactive setups, it adds cover above ground and slowly breaks down to feed your clean-up crew.

What animals is spinifex best for?
Desert and dry-country species such as bearded dragons, knob-tailed geckos, desert skinks and scorpions.

Pairs well with: Arid Substrate Mix, Australian Desert Sand, Dry Sclerophyll Substrate Mix, Bearded Dragon Enclosure Starter Kit, Knob Tailed Gecko (Nephrurus levis levis).
