Plump White Springtail (Onychiurinae) for sale. Plump white springtails are chunky, pure-white, soil-dwelling springtails. They’re blind and can’t jump, so they don’t spring out when you open the lid. Instead they stay down in the substrate, working the deep, moist layers most springtails never reach. That makes them an excellent deep-substrate clean-up crew for bioactive enclosures and an easy culture for beginners.

Sourced from Australian breeders and shipped live every Monday and Tuesday (excluding NT and Tasmania).

Plump White Springtail Care Guide for Beginners

  • Experience level: Beginner
  • Adult size: Around 2–3mm, noticeably chunkier than common white springtails
  • Lifespan: Cultures last indefinitely with care
  • Enclosure: Keep them in their culture container, or seed them straight into your enclosure.
  • Temperature: 18–25°C.
  • Humidity: Keep the substrate constantly moist. They dry out quickly.
  • Lighting: No UVB needed. Normal room light for a natural day/night cycle is enough; keep out of direct sun.
  • Substrate and décor: Supplied in culture medium. Mix them into the lower, moist layers of your substrate rather than scattering them on the surface.
  • Diet: In an enclosure they eat mould, fungi and waste. In a culture, feed a pinch of yeast, fish flake or a few grains of rice once a week, and remove any food that goes mouldy.
  • Handling: Not needed. When disturbed they release a harmless defensive fluid that some predators dislike, so they’re best kept as a clean-up crew rather than a staple live food.
  • Licence: No licence is needed for most invertebrates, but rules vary by state and species, so check before you buy if you’re interstate.

Everything you need: Springtail & Isopod Substrate Mix, Rainforest Substrate Mix, Dwarf White Isopod (Trichorhina tormentosa), Isopod Culture Tubs.

Our Surry Hills store is small, so we keep in-store stock deliberately limited. Not everything online is on the shelf, so call us on (02) 7813 9640 before visiting for a specific item.

All reptiles and amphibians are sold online only, due to permit requirements.

If your animal arrives dead, contact us within one hour of delivery with a photo, and we will send a replacement. You don’t pay shipping on the replacement. Photo helps us identify what caused death so we can help prevent it from happening again with your order, and others.

Someone needs to be home to receive the parcel. We can’t cover animals left at a depot, sent to an incorrect address, or reported more than an hour after delivery.
