Dragon Springtail
(Womersleymeria sp.) for sale. Dragon springtails are among Australia’s giant springtails. They’re chunky, long-antennaed and lined with bright, spiky projections that give them their dragon look. In the wild they’re known only from the cool forests of Victoria and Tasmania, where they live in and under rotting logs and graze on slime moulds and fungi. They’re a collector’s springtail for display, not a mass-produced clean-up crew.

Sourced from Australian breeders and shipped live every Monday and Tuesday (excluding NT and Tasmania).

Dragon Springtail Care Guide for Beginners

  • Experience level: Intermediate
  • Adult size: Several millimetres, much larger than common springtails
  • Lifespan: Colonies can persist long-term in stable, cool conditions
  • Enclosure: A small ventilated tub around 20 x 15 x 10cm with a piece of soft, rotting hardwood. You can also seed them into a cool, humid bioactive enclosure.
  • Temperature: Cool, 15–22°C. Avoid anything above 24°C, because these springtails come from cool temperate forest.
  • Humidity: High. Keep the wood and substrate constantly damp but never waterlogged, and mist every few days.
  • Lighting: No UVB needed. Normal room light for a natural day/night cycle is enough; keep out of direct sun.
  • Substrate and décor: 3–5cm of Springtail & Isopod Substrate Mix, with rotting hardwood, bark and leaf litter.
  • Diet: They graze on the fungi and slime moulds that grow on decaying wood, so keep a steady supply of rotting hardwood and leaf litter, plus [your supplementary food].
  • Handling: Not for handling. Move them by lifting the bark they’re sitting on, or with a soft brush. Unlike common springtails, they can’t jump.
  • Licence: No licence is needed for most invertebrates, but rules vary by state and species, so check before you buy if you’re interstate.

Everything you need: Springtail & Isopod Substrate Mix, Virgin Portuguese Cork Bark, Isopod Culture Tubs, Terrarium Misting Bottle.

Our Surry Hills store is small, so we keep in-store stock deliberately limited. Not everything online is on the shelf, so call us on (02) 7813 9640 before visiting for a specific item.

All reptiles and amphibians are sold online only, due to permit requirements.

Visit us at Shop 5, 450 Elizabeth Street, Surry Hills NSW 2010. Open Wednesday to Sunday.

If your animal arrives dead, contact us within one hour of delivery with a photo, and we will send a replacement. You don’t pay shipping on the replacement. Photo helps us identify what caused death so we can help prevent it from happening again with your order, and others.

Someone needs to be home to receive the parcel. We can’t cover animals left at a depot, sent to an incorrect address, or reported more than an hour after delivery.
